In the 1990s in Kansas City, income inequality was rampant, with the highest poverty rates among children and youth. From state and county government to local businesses, individual organizations were devoted to improving the Kansas City community. Unity was needed among the groups and so, the Local Investment Commission (LINC) was founded.
LINC provided the unique opportunity for members from all parts of the community to create a shared understanding of the community needs, and work together to provide the services required to meet those needs. There were, however, logistical challenges with community collaboration including dual-entry of client data and an inefficient use of staff time.
In 2015, LINC introduced Apricot software, allowing them to redirect saved time and effort toward client service. In addition to gained efficiencies, LINC can now better report to its stakeholders, critical for seeking new funding and informing current funders of their impact.
